Hi, I’m Kate Fantinel from SSAA TV. Joining
me today from our Insurance Brokerage is the National Manager Trevor Jenkin. Now there
have been some exciting things happening at insurance lately, Trevor can you tell us what’s
been happening? I can Kate. The biggest thing is we have changed
our name to SSAA General Insurance Brokers. The reason for this is we’ve always been
associated with the SSAA Members Firearms Insurance and home and contents insurance
and we’ve had great support from the members for that. But we’ve always done business
insurance; we just haven’t been getting the message out to the member as well as we
should have been. So when you say ‘business insurance’,
what does that cover? Business insurance is everything that the
businessman needs. So you’ve got the tradesman, the retail owner, the wholesaler… They have
fire insurance, burglary insurance, commercial, motor – we can do all of that for them and
tidy it all up in one package. What about a doctor or an accountant?
Yes, we can do that. Every business needs their fire cover, their burglary, their motor
vehicle, etc. But someone like that also needs malpractice insurance and professional indemnity,
and we can include that for them. So how long would it take to get a quote?
We have the client complete a proposal form which they send in to us. Once we’ve checked
it, we send it into the underwriter. The underwriters are good, they take one or two days to get
back to us and as soon as we get those quotes back in, then we send it straight off to the
client. So once you have the client’s business is
that it? No, we’re in touch with them throughout
the year to make sure everything is the same with the business, that way we can always
keep a check on whether they have bought new machinery, a new motor vehicle. They may have
changed situation altogether, so we need to get onto the insurance company to make that
the policy still fits. So it’s not all about the premium?
No, it’s definitely not all about the premium. We could place some covers with some insurance
companies and their policy wordings aren’t as good as other insurance companies. So we’re
making sure we are putting it with the right insurer and it may cost a little bit more
but if they ever have a claim, they’ll be happy that we did.
So does SSAA General Insurance Brokers use just the one insurance company?
No, we deal with all of them. So you could end up with your business insurance with one,
your machinery break-down with another and you’re motor vehicle with another.
But then the client could end up dealing with three or four different companies?
The client would have three or four different companies but we would deal with them on their
behalf. So any enquiries always come to us and then we go to whichever insurer, insures
that type of risk. What about if they had to make a claim?
Well, then they would come through us. We have a claims department there and they would
take the claim for, lodge it with the insurance company and then we follow it up every two
or three weeks to make sure that it is all running smoothly.
Are the insurance company’s policy wordings available somewhere?
Yes, they are, but what we do is we send it out with the quote. So when they get that
quotation, they also have the opportunity to read the policy wording as well. But, the
big thing there is we have already done that for them. We’ve looked at the policy wording
and we’ve checked it and we’ve made sure that it does suit the client’s needs.
Is there anything else you would like to tell our members or clients about insurance?
I think the biggest thing is business insurance isn’t as hard as it seems. So as long as
we get all that underwriting information from you, which we do at the beginning, we can
send it off and we can come back to you with a quotation and it’s a pretty simple process
really. Excellent. Thanks Trevor.
