I rented at Public Storage once. I had lost the key to the lock on a space so I told the management and they tried to sell me a lock, but it was too expensive, so I went to buy another one at a store. But then I went back to the space before I left and I noticed that someone had cut the lock. When I went back to the office, they tried to sell me a lock. I was really feeling strange about this incident, thinking that their behavior said that they were the ones that cut the lock hoping that I would buy a lock from them.

I've worked there, and corporate makes us read that insurance script, us property managers make no profit off of it but we get yelled at if we have an insurance miss cause the district and regional manager don't get their precious bonuses, it's fucking ridiculous.
They just increased my rate by 12 percent! I'd be lucky to get a 3 percent cost of living raise at my job!
Public Storage is fraudulent. I am disabled once I paid people to move my stuff there they know you can't just move out so they keep raising the monthly rent. I have been ripped off overcharged at many storages. I have problems with 4 storages now they keep adding to the bill claiming I owe thousands…its unreal…I keep paying and getting no where

most people that have public storage locks on there space have not paied there balance your forgot to put there lock on so we put ours on so there stuff is secure. after 24 day of having a balance is when your lock gets cut off so there for when that happens it is the customers fault no if and or butts about it. public storage does everything legal. any insurance companies do the same not all but a lot that they do

The woman went to lien and that happen, Public Storage or any Storage will cut the Customer lock and replaced with Company lock. At this point their belonging exposed to a possible inside theft. Meaning, only Public Storage managers have access to her values belonging and the customer not present to secure her Storage after she paid it current. The insurance have the valid point when declining her claimed due to no force entry. However, most theft in my ten years experience mostly are inside job. Either done by another Customer or by the managers. This is what happen when Customer don’t secure their Storage right away. I don’t defend Public Storage but they do have daily security protocol that need to follow and to notify Customers to secure their space and Customer is ultimately responsible to do their part. As for the insurance., I didn’t become a believer to it until you actually experience loosing something and Public Storage just like any Storage company stated in the leasing agreement that they are not responsible for any loses.; even it the storage fault. Customer need to start reading and understanding the binding contract. Public Storage and any Storage confirmed with their state leasing agreement law. Customers need to realized base on the agreement that they not supposed to store anything more than $5000 valued items. Anything beyond belong to more secure like Bank deposit safe. I recommend to Customers to take pictures of their belonging as they storing it to any Storage facility. Public Storage do not pressure their employee to sell insurance. Public Storage simply offering it to Customers. DM sometime push it because many employee are either don’t believe in it or not presenting to the Customer the benefit of having an insurance. Not all claim are valid claim just like any type of insurance. To avoid false claim.
Police doesn’t know jack about storage security. In my 20 years in storage business, there is no such thing storage burglary proof. Disc lock doesn’t guarantee hacker free. Lock smith have master key to unlock any pod lock and disc lock without damaging it. Most burglary are inside jobs. The only way u can recover some or most of your loses is to have insurance and follow the guidelines. Most storages offer security perks like disc or cylinder lock, 24/7 camera and gates security but those doesn’t guarantee protection. All it is that the Storage did their part to have some kind of minimal security system to make it harder for burglary to access your storage. Burglary will find a way no matter what the source of security. Never put anything a value more than $5000 and It’s in customers agreement. If the storage claim never have any break in or burglary, they are lying to u. Insurance is the last line of defense. I highly recommend it. Your home owner insurance or rental insurance may only cover up to $2500 and the rest is on you. It’s always a good idea to get more insurance coverage if you really value you belonging. Insurance are not scam. It is there for a reason. The contract clearly stated if there is anything u loose, storage are not responsible even it their negligence. So read your contract. Protect you stuff by getting recommended lock and Insurance. If u being cheap, then you tiding care about your belonging and storage may not for you.
