Hi, this is Tim with Haymaker Insurance
in Federal Way Washington. It’s a beautiful day here so I thought I’d
answer a quick question. What’s the difference between an insurance agent
and an insurance broker? Well first before I do that let’s talk about what a
captive agent is and what a standard agent is. So, a captive agent works for a
company like State Farm and farmers companies like that; American family and
I’m sure they do a great job. But they only have one market to go to and that’s
their own. They can only provide their one brand and I’m sure they do a great job
with that. However, if there’s a need for a second option or something happens and
maybe your carrier wants to drop you that particular insurance agent can’t do
anything to find you an additional coverage where an insurance broker can.
So, I’m an insurance broker and I’m also an insurance agent it’s relatively the same.
The difference is as a broker, I can go out to several different markets like
Travelers, Safeco, Progressive just to name a few and bring you multiple
options. So, on your behalf I act as a broker to bring you options and once we
secure those options and as of you and I are having conversations I’m your
insurance agent but again I’m also a broker. I hope that helps clear it up. If
you have any questions, I’m always available. Give me a call or drop me an
email. Thanks for stopping by.
