Did you know that if you live and work in Ireland or in any other country in the European Union and you go on holiday to EU country and if you get sick there, you can get medical care for free? If you did not know then stay tuned. Hi guys, I’m Frankie and welcome
once again to my channel. As I said at the beginning of the video I will be talking about free medical care that people living and working in Ireland are entitled to when traveling to another EU Country in case they get sick over there. First of all, keep in mind that this applies to anyone regardless of whether they are EU citizens or a citizen of another country, In this case I’m going to focus on Latin Americans because obviously this video is focused on Latin Americans. Then, regardless of whether you come
from a country in Latin America but you work and live legally here, you can get as it is knwon in Ireland, the European Health Insurance Card. And this is not only here in Ireland. If for example, there is a Latin American living in any other EU country or a European living in another EU country apart from their country of residence or origin, they can apply for this card as well. In any case, the name of the card varies from country to country or language to language, For our case, the important thing is that you are living in Ireland legally and working at the same time. Regardless of whether you are a
student or not, but how important it is to work and thus be able to pay the social insurance. So, we as Latin Americans, when we travel to an EU country We need a private health insurance. This card that I am going to talk about does not replace travel health insurance you need when traveling. Anyway you must have your medical insurance when you go on holiday to any EU country but remember once again, you need to have the private health insurance This card is not going to replace it. Instead, this card allows you or gives you the right to receive free medical care in any EU country, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, in case you are on holiday in any of these territories and you suddenly get sick. The laws vary from one country to another, and there are countries such as France, where you have to pay 20% of the total sum of the bill There are other countries, such as Spain, that if you have this card you do not need to pay any fee, Anyway you have to always check it every time you go to a hospital in case you get sick. Hopefully not, but, you know? It is better to ask and have this card too. To apply for this card is super easy here under the description I’ll leave the link that takes you to the official page of the Department that is responsible for public health here in Ireland, it’s called HSE and I’ll also leave the link for the application form. The form is super simple, it is one page and there you have to fill in what they ask for for example, you have to put your name, your last name, your DoB your PPS number, (if you have not seen my video about the PPS, here it will appear so you can see it) and they’re also going to ask you for your address … and you know? your phone number email, etc. etc. when I say address, I mean the address where you live and along with this you have to also send a copy of your PPS Number, it could be the card some document where your PPS appears and also a copy of your identity document to confirm that it is you and a copy of a utility bill with your name on it Now, where do you have to send this documentation? depending the city where you live you have to send it to the relevant HSE office anyway, here below in the description I’ll also leave the link where you can find the address for each office that correspond to each state or each city but in the particular case of Dublin, this is different, here there are many HSE offices w but it will depend on which Dublin you live For example, if you live in Dublin 8, you will need to send it to a different office than people living in Dublin 1 so you have to always double check If you have any questions you can call the office that you think is your right one and they can tell you where to send the application. Normally, this process takes one week and they send you the blue card and your name appears there, the PPS number to identify you as
person, your date of birth, for how long it is valid and the number of the card, this is important … I guess when you go to any of these countries and you have to use the card, so they can verify this information and it’s good to have it because there are people who go on a trip and do not buy private travel medical insurance. This applies to both Europeans and Latin Americans. Then they go to another country, get sick over there and have to pay for their own pocket the whole hospital– the consultation and all the treatment, but instead, if you have this card you could apply and basically everything would come out for free. So it’s very good that you take it into consideration if you work and live here in Ireland, Whether you are Latin American or European. So, it’s good to have it and not
need it than need it and not have it.
