♪ Six seven years old I remember,
first grade teacher would tell us. Hey, what would you guys want to be when you grow up? I drew a picture of the restaurant of where my mom worked. Me and a friend of mine decided to open our own restaurant and that was Sabroso came in. It is hectic. It goes by fast. I’m I rather be here and be busy then be here and not be busy. I like being here just because I like, you know taking care of the
customers. I’ve kind of known Marcos for a long time. You know, his restaurant is just a couple miles from here.
And so we just kind of became acquaintances over the years
and I sort of gradually learned more and more about him.
He had to overcome a lot and he’s still running this family
restaurant. I had testicular cancer that
moved up to my lungs about it’s a little bit over ten years ago.
I beat it once. It came back in a month. It came back even
harder. I beat it the second time and I’ve stayed clean ever
since. That’s kind of I guess our culture.
We don’t go to the doctor until we’re almost dying. That’s how I
got I think I got the cancer. I went through it without
insurance. It it was very hard. These days where you know health insurance is mandatory. You know to me it’s cheaper to just pay the penalties. You know, most of the employees would
rather just go to the emergency room or to the doctor and pay
the cash. Then paying a five hundred dollar premium a month
or something like that. I don’t mind paying it. I don’t want to
hand out but you know they have to be reasonable.
David Circle was a regular customer of ours and his family
comes in eats here often. He did approach us to kind of
be his Guinea pig. Tried to refine his method of using
telemedicine. I have been an emergency
medicine physician for fifteen years in Greenville. I realize
that a lot of people either didn’t have access to healthcare
or they may even have insurance and have a doctor but it was very difficult for them to get in to see their doctor and so they would end up in the emergency department. Couple of friends of mine and I got together and we came up with an idea where people could log into a website and essentially call us. It’s almost like face time with us. The two way video conference. Essentially we’re trying to make it convenient for people to get seen. By a physician. In the E.R. every single patient I see. I
shake their hand and introduce myself. It’s kind of the same way. It’s hard to shake hands by
telemedicine but, you know I say hi and introduce myself and
there’s always, you know you have to kind of get to know
somebody a little bit. What I do find myself doing in
the emergency department, is when I’m talking to someone. The
little voice in the back of my head is thinking. This person doesn’t need to be seen here. I could have treated them so much quicker, so much cheaper, so much easier,
on our website. You know a lot of the restaurant
industry works very long hours. Very late and there are
emergency rooms but, you know the affordability for people
that don’t have insurance. Yeah it’s a no brainer. We will set up a conference whenever he’s available an whenever I’m available. Usually late night or early in the
morning and I just so easy. With personal health issues and
you know stuff its hard to talk to a doctor. I’m very
comfortable with him and I think we develop almost like friendship. After we became friends he’s become, you know part of the Sabroso family. I know i can depend on him for my health concerns and everything.
