Perfect Travel Luggage 10 Tips To Find The
BEST Luggage For You [0:00:00]
Do you like to travel? I know I do. So, this Thursday I’m going to Chicago.
Saturday, I’m flying down to Pensacola, Florida, then I’m taking a road trip. We’re
going to go through Alabama, we’re going to go through Mississippi, going to go through
Louisiana, all the way through Texas to New Mexico. Then, from New Mexico, I’ll probably
fly back up to Chicago. Then in November, I’m going to London for three weeks. In
February, I’m flying back to Florida and then, I’m going to go through South Carolina
and Georgia on my way driving back to Wisconsin. Oh, and by the way, I just took a six-month
trip with my family, we hit twenty two states and three countries. Guys, I spend a lot of
time living out in the suitcase and I can tell you the right luggage matters.
In today’s video, I’m going to give you ten tips so that you can go out and find the
best luggage that’s going to suit your particular needs.
[Music] All right, gentlemen, here it is my perfect
piece of luggage. Now, this has been a perfect piece for me and I want to stress, I want
you to use this checklist. Everything I’m going to put out here to find the perfect
piece for you because for me as busy professional, someone that carries camera equipment, I wanted
hard covered – I wanted hard luggage. Something that whether or not I’m traveling on the
small commuter aircraft and they say, oh, you got to check this, so it has to go under,
I want to be able to protect my camera equipment. Or if it’s – I wanted a size that was
actually if I take it on a bigger aircraft they’re not going to have an issue and it
will fit in the overheard above. And, I just want it so that my stuff can be protected.
And this one has gone through a beating and has taken everything that was thrown at it.
So, if you’re wondering who made this bag right here, this is Genius Pack. And they
are the paid sponsor of this video and I’m proud to have them as the paid sponsor because
I have loved and used their gear. And all the examples I’m going to be using here
are from Genius Pack. I’m going to link to them down in the description and you can
go and there’s a great discount code for you to use. It’s a limited time discount
code. I love what they’re doing over there and
like I said I only recommend it because I love their gear. It’s solid stuff, but when
you’re using the checklist and information I’m putting out there, you can apply this
to anything because you may say, you know, I’m not a hard luggage kind of guy, I’m
going to be – I want a leather bag or I’m a soft luggage kind of person or I want something
that’s going to be of a brighter color that’s going to have neon stripes on it so I can
easily identify it. Whatever it may be, use this information and go out there and make
the smart purchasing decision for you. Tip number one to buying the perfect piece
of luggage. Buy the right size. I know guys it sounds obvious, but so many people go out
there and they buy the wrong size. What they often do is they buy something that’s too
large and when you buy something that’s too large or even on the border, what happens
is you overstuff it. And next thing you know you’ve got to check that in, it’s too
heavy, it’s too big. Have you ever had that happened? I know we
have. And it just is so frustrating when you’ve got to pay that extra money, it’s like we’re
going to take this on the plane with us. Dimensions and weights, this changes a lot. But, in the
support article I’m going to link to it down in the description, I actually link we
printed the charts, so for the different airlines to try to make it easy for you. But the point
is, buy the right size for you. So it may be, hey, you’re just going for a one day
trip, can you take a simple professional backpack which is going to hold your computer, hold
one change of clothes and you’ll be fine. I find that packing light and always trying
to go with a smaller bag. Maybe it’s going to be something like a simple portfolio, you’re
going for a day trip, you’re not disappearing for a month. But, if you are disappearing
for two weeks, you’re going to travel, you may find that a big like this and by packing
an interchangeable wardrobe you’re going to get more. Something like this is going
to fit on pretty much any airline, it’s not going to – you don’t have to check
this in and it’s going to stay within weight constrictions if you don’t put like, you
know, lead weights in there. Now, speaking of weight which is point number
two, you got to make sure that your luggage is lightweight. Now, a lot of – the nicer
luggage, the stuff that cost a bit more, what you’re oftentimes paying for is it’s made
from materials that are lightweight. They’re going to save you money. This piece right
here 6 lbs or just over 6 lbs. What does that do? It gives me plenty of weight to be able
to pack and to be able to load things up. Weigh the luggage, if you are questionable.
I remember I had one piece of luggage and this was when we’re traveling international.
I think you get like 50 lbs. The piece of luggage itself was 20 lbs. Can you imagine
that? I mean I’ve already lost 40% of the weight I can take on the airplane in the luggage,
so pay attention to the weight. Next stop, we’ve got internal capacity and
that’s not the same as the dimensions. It would sound like it should be, but internal
capacity, you want to open up the luggage you want to look in, okay, have they made
it – have they done a good job not wasting space not basically eliminating and making
it so that you can open and you can use every available inch. Sometimes you’ve got pieces
of luggage they just create dead space, you want to avoid that.
[0:04:52] So, while we’re on the inside of the luggage
let’s look at pouches. I really like having a set number of pouches so that you can, you
know, certain items may be that you want to keep and have easy access to. Other times
you got something you just don’t want to lose, you don’t want to get lost into the
luggage. Now, what I like about Genius Pack, they’ve got this checklist for me. They’ve
got individual items. Even if I don’t use these for these items, I like that they remind
me to actually pack them. It’s something that I haven’t seen any other luggage company
do. I also like they’ve got compression right
in here. These compression straps and what that does I can pack the luggage up, I can
put the straps over, so if I opened the luggage I forget something right here in the airport,
I don’t have my clothing falling out. Item number five to look at. You want to make
sure to use a heavy duty zipper. You want something that is not going to get torn off.
I’ve seen really small zippers. The problem is is that this gets twisted off right here.
You want something that is made from steel that is almost overly built and you want that
zipper to move smoothly. If it’s giving you trouble when you first looking to purchase
it, don’t go with it. It’s not going to get better over time.
Next stop, you want to look at the handles. Here’s a quick story. My mom had a cheap
piece of luggage that she — I don’t know where she bought this thing. It looked nice.
And she gave it to us and I remember we were as soon as I picked it up for at the airport,
the piece – that handle just came right off. I was just like, oh, my gosh. Now, you
want something and you want to hold on. You want to make sure this thing is not coming
off. Next stop, let’s talk about the materials
that the luggage is made from. So, leather. I love leather. It’s a luxury material and
over time I think it can look better and better. It can deal with a lot of beating and it’s
just one of the most durable materials out there. The issue with leather is it it can
be marked and damaged especially with something sharp. It could cut right into the leather
and then you’ve got that luxury good that was so expensive all of a sudden is going
to be very, very difficult to repair. Another thing with leather is it’s got to be conditioned
and taken care of. It can also be affected by certain dyes. And leather in general is
going to be more expensive. Now, nylons and various synthetic materials
are great especially those that are made like with the ballistic nylon or something, it’s
got a very tough stitch. This is something you’ll get spilled on, usually cleaned very
easily. It’s going to be inexpensive and it may be viewed as a bit cheaper.
Now, hard luggage, you’re going to see that made from metal, you’re going to see that
made from various plastics out there. Usually the metals are going to be more expensive.
This one is made from a very tough type of resin or a plastic here. I have had great
luck with this particular one from Genius Pack. Like I said the other bag I’ve had
it for three years, I’ve never like nothing shattered or broken on it. I like hard luggage
and the reason being is I take delicate equipment with me. There are certain pieces out there
you can pay a lot of money for and they are going to be like incredibly crush resistant.
So, if that is your need definitely check those out.
All right. Next stop, let’s talk about wheels. So, the most common kind we’re going to
see out there is going to be, well, you’ve got the four – the four wheels like this
nice roller. I like this. The eight is new on the block. This is probably a little bit
more expensive, I think is great. Now, Genius Pack has both options. I – I like them both.
I have not noticed a difference. I used to also have it and Genius Pack does
have it as well. Well, you’ve got the two wheels and I used to prefer the two wheels.
I feel when it’s set up, you know, it’s not going to roll around, it’s a bit more
stable. I liked the look of the two-wheel, but now that I’ve been using the four-wheel
a lot more, I just find that it’s great. It oftentimes depends on how do you like to
move your luggage. With this right here, I can have it on all
four or all eight wheels and just push it through the airport. The two wheels I found
was great if I was maybe, you know, in Kiev, Ukraine and I had to like walk half a mile
on pretty bad sidewalk then in that case, I would want to the larger wheel which oftentimes
you see on the two-wheel – wheeled vehicles. Now, what you want to make sure, again, is
look at those wheels, make sure that they roll smooth because if you’re going to be
covering a lot of mileage in that airport, you want to make sure they just roll smooth.
The next thing to look at is the telescopic handle. You want to make sure that it goes
up and down smoothly especially going back in. So, it goes out, goes back in. The more
spaces that it’s actually going to have the more options, this is basically has two
points. So, if you’re like 5 foot, basically you’re a 5-foot woman, then you would want
to use it at this level. If you’re 6’2”, you’d want to use it at that level. So,
if you’re really tall, really short you’re going to want to make sure that the height
works for you. Another thing I look for in the perfect piece
of luggage is it it works with other pieces and it a sense they work together as a set.
So, this is what I mean. So, right here you knock this up and then this backpack from
Genius Pack is all going to work together. So, you see that right here? So, I’ve got
other pieces of luggage that I’ve tried to do this and what the frustration I have
in the airport is that they fall over. So, I like it when pieces work together they
connect they come basically together as set. And I like it when a brand has options like
that. Little things too like this portfolio, what I like about this portfolio is right
in here they’ve got this room for a charger. So, they sell a charger and I can simply put
it in my portfolio very smoothly fits right in there. Perfect. And, if I need to head
out, I’ve got what I need. So, I love it when companies think through and they create
this smart intelligent design. [0:10:20]
Whoever you go with, whatever you buy, make sure that it suits your needs. Use this information
to find the perfect piece of luggage for you. And I think it’s better to spend a little
bit of extra money on something that you love and every time you use, you get great value
from. Again, the support article is going to go
into a lot more detail. I’ve got all that information about what are the requirements
for weight for dimensions for the different airlines. And, if you’re interested in grabbing
something from Genius Pack, do it now because they’ve got that discount code. It’s only
going to last for awhile. I’m going to put it down in the description of this video.
Gents, that’s it. Take care. I’ll see you in the next video.

Antonio please pay attention on your under shirt brother, I know it's a small thing but it's really not nice. Lots of love, keep up the great work
I remember vividly when I moved to Germany, right at the Airport One of my 3 Suitcases, the biggest One, just broke right above the Zipper5 Minutes later the Handle came off . . .
And I was stuck carrying a 100-pound Bag and 2 Others for about 250 Kilometers .I can NOT stress how important good Luggage is.
Awesome Stuffs.. Is it available in Gujarat State, India Now…? Which Store…? Sir…
I travel internationally about once a year with the same cheap bags. They've worked so far, but it may be time to upgrade…never know when the cheap ones are going to fail, lol.
I would say buy a strange color.
Put some stickers on.
If you can sit on it is nice, you wait and wait.
And bring your smaler and bigger bag to the store. The bag should fit inside the bigger bag, and the smaler bag should fit inside the new bag. That saves you space at home. Then you fill up the inbetweens with traveling stuff. And you can store your traveling stuff in a small volume.
Hard luggage all the way! After some things being broken before while in my bags I learned that's the best way to go. You don't know how they treat your luggage at the airports!
Just pack Tiège Hanley with you,it shrinks everything.
Chicago Antonio… I know who you going to visit in Chicago… at least I think I know. I have a smell on my face I can't wash off.
Great video, much appreciated. I have an issue with what size luggage to buy. I usually go to conventions or travel to do revivals, so I usually need 3 to 4 suits along with a couple casual outfits, what is the best size for that? 22 inch or 30?
Antonio when you in London let's meet, would like a bit of your incredible advice – and meet the guy responsible for my transformation lol give me dates please
I've seen GeniusPack in the airports and everyone seems to love them! I currently use Tumi with great results, but will keep GP in mind in the future.
If you travel to places with cobblestone, you will want a bag with large wheels. Those bags with small wheels will get stuck between the stones and cause some real pain.
I love to travel too!!! Could you do a video review on packing for a 7 day cruise and how you can properly pack your formal and business wear clothing?
Hey Antonio, I just want to say thank you for a video you made a while back called '20 Random YouTubers I LOVE', in the video you recommended some channels that have really helped me out in starting my own channel such as Roberto Blake and Video Creators. I've been watching your channel for a few years now and you have definitely helped me step up my style game and become a better person. Thank you for bringing me and lots of others great content and if you happen to be into mountain biking I would love it if you guys could check out my channel.
Can you make a video about how to keep your collar on your polo looking nice after you wash and dry it?
I always check usually even for a 2 to 3 day trip. Mostly because I have to have a bag I can use on the other side rather than cart the roller with me. My company will pay for the checked bag. Another reason is I'm a big guy so my clothes take up more room. I have a week trip to Florida coming up too and I have to have comfortable casual clothes for after hours. So I will likely will take the bigger bag(although I may not since I probably will just want to eat and then head back to the hotel after work.
I think the best thing here is learn how to take only what you need and be prepared with knowledge in case you need to make do on the other end. π
sounds fun, you jet setter you.. I could have used this info years ago when i did a world travel, but i did ok, still useful on a smaller scale for me cheers anyway
There is nothing Antonio likes more than pressing his index finger and thumb together.
I too love travel & u give me the best solution for me Thank u very much sir
Perfect video= perfect channel= PERFECT LUGGAGE . Thanks!
I'm curious, what part of New Mexico?
Albuquerque is considered by many to be hot air balloon capital of the world, mostly because they host the international hot air balloon festival in October. You can take hot air balloon ride anytime the year. My wife and I went on one for 5th anniversary and loved it.
If you are in Santa Fe, there will be tons of great places to eat as well as lots of museums and art studios. Ten Thousand Waves is a fantastic spa, with its own restaurant. I haven't to been but my wife has and she like it a lot.
There are tons of great places to hike all the way out to New Mexico. Depending on the temperature I would recommend White Sands or tent rocks.
I live in Albuquerque so I have tons of other recommendations but I will stop there since I'm sure you've done your own research already.
Great video.
Any thoughts on Luxury Luggage Brands, such as Louis Vuitton and Gucci, would be much appreciated.
Keep up the good work.
I love the tips to help us determine what's best, instead of just telling us what product you think is the best.
What's happening in London in November? Any meet-up planned?
Showing your undershirt is not a RMRS.
lucky. im so jelly
I needed this video in my life thanks for sharing your experience all your videos are on point
In your coming travel, don't forget to look up for the solar eclipse on Aug21
I have the Mia Toro hard luggage. It's designed almost like genius pack without the interior pockets and packing list. I took it to Saint Lucia and it worked like a champ. It connects to the other bag and I can move the bags like a train.
I recently bought luggages as I am travelling to study in Hungary. I was so confused whether to go for the hard cover or the cloth material and I decided to go with the cloth material because it had more internal capacity than the hard cover. But the designs on the hard cover looked way more cooler
00:03 – 00:29
Keep on rockin' me baby
Stop in Dallas and give me a watch. π
solid video after solid video.. cheers Antonio
You should go to Scotland it's beautiful and full of history and culture!
Video de excelencia """
great another sponsored video π
This is really well made video and it proves you have travelled a lot :). I totally agree on your point of size of luggage – with suits it's not that big problem when it's half empty if you don't have to deal with weight limits or similar but the big half full traveling bags looks from my point of view silly and too bulky… and also everyone can see it's half empty
Come on man how can you call the Genius pack luggage compression straps. You and I both know that those clips will break right off. I know cuz I bought this because you recommended it a few years ago. I know they are the sponsors but damn just be honest about it man
Fantastic video, I love how you provided a checklist so that we can find our own. You are a very helpful guy Antonio, Thank You.
Travel bag that you can put someone in it.
What brand of watch were you wearing?
I love that portafolio
Great video!
Another tip for international travelers is to be aware of regional airline regulations. For example in Asia, regional carriers do not focus on size very much for carry on luggage. They focus on weight. The general standard is 7kg. At least for me, my carry on luggage when flying weighs more than that, so I have to pack accordingly.
Lastly, the hard cased luggage is also more secure. Any zippered luggage can easily be defeated and restored without even touching the lock. One would not notice any irregularity or theft until you reached your destination and unpacked. By that time, any report of theft would have lost credibility.
Thanks for sharing Antonio.
I thought you were in some eastern European country.
I do travel a lot for work and I agree, it is important to have a good luggage to protect your items. Thank you so much for the video and the info.
Do they weigh the carry on? I just traveled to the US from Canada and they didn't weigh it. So as long as it's the right measurement I don't have to worry about the weight???
I need a paid sponsor to view some of these videos. What happened to the military heritage content ?
How many nights do y'all stay in hotels a year?
I pretty much only travel with carry one items. For a short trip I have an aer travel bag that I use. I also have a small carry on bag from it luggage that I use when I travel for work and also have a Hershel duffle for when I need something in between. I think it's also important to find a bag that fits your packing style. I like using packing cubes so I generally like habit a lot of open space. If you like having a specific place for everything then a more compartmentalized bag with good internal storage options.
Hey Antonio, are you coming through San Antonio,Texas, would absolutely love to meet you, I really look up to you, thanks for reading
Great video.Pls have a look at mos backpack.
For Miami.
Hi Antonio, I dont like the way i look in a dress shirt, are there any alternatives for semi- formal/ smart/casual wear, perhaps a turtleneck? and would i need a jacket to wear with a turtleneck
Great Tips Antonio, do you recommend the cabin sized bags for suits? or any better way to carry the suits around?
Very useful video Antonio be strong
i read the book deep work recommended by you sir. There was some strategy in that book that you use for emailsπ. Btw thanks
So with summer coming, long sleeves are going to be what I'm wearing for the most part shortly. The problem is that I've got freaky long monkey arms, and so I have a really hard time finding shirts that fit me. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a t-shirt or casual button up brand that has longer arms. The struggle has been real… Also, very informative video!
somebody should bless my wardrobe. all this stuffs are so super expensive
Million Dollar Collar spotting. Nice placket stays bud.
what are you going to new mexico for?
What is that watch you are wearing in this video?
Antonio, LOVE the shirt! So perfect the collar. Million dollar collar?? π
I've heard & read in recent years that hard cases & luggage are better than leather or nylon material. It helps reduce bed bugs, lice, bugs, etc. Also, airline & FAA employees often use hard side cases. I'd agree to buy quality & spend a bit extra for something that lasts years. I want a GI type military duffle bag. I bought a cheap black milspec bag that fell apart after 2 years.
Stop and see me in lake Charles
don't your children need to go to school if you made a 6 month trip
how can i get that portfolio of genius pack in nepal?
This video came out at just the right time.
Great thanks Antonio, I'm off to Italy & Switzerland in the next couple of weeks so will take a look at the Genius Pack! Great idea about having the checklist, seems so simple. More brands need to think outside the box. I worked in mens retail and one particular clothing brand (won't mention) had the police 'search and seizure' warrant laws sewn into the lining of their jackets. Great idea, novel, out of the box thinking. Keep these videos coming.
If you are more concerned about security for your check-in luggage, you should consider hard sided, non-zipper closure cases. Zippers can be defeated very easily in less than 10 seconds using a pen.
I love to travel and whit this I travel cheaper π This is my honest recomendation for all of you adventure lovers- http://bit.ly/2wiughT
Good to know Genius Pack is at least consistent. You've been recommending these guys for years… I'd throw a lot of pieces of luggage from TravelPro in for a recommendation as well. I picked up one of their suitcases recently and it has served me very well in my travels and has similar features to the bag you're showing here.
basically if you're a 5 foot WOMAN ..loooool
Dude, u talk too much get to the point
Thanks for this great review man! was very helpful.
My body height is 5 feet 2 inch. So what size of bag suits for me? Please suggest me
6 month trip π°
What size luggage is that?
This guy has issues
Whats the size ?
You flexed way too hard there
I'm going on a swim camp in october. As a swimmer I need to pack alot of sports items. We are going for a week, but I dont know if i need a medium size suitcase, or if i need a big one. (All the swim items take some space) and i want to shop a little while im there
If it was luggage that you truly supported & stood behind, this video wouldn't have to be sponsored. The fact that it is makes it biased.
