When travelling with a tiny bag, there are things you must do without. Giving up possessions is inevitable but it doesn’t mean you have to suffer. We can still thrive living with just the essentials. Find the right bag for you. You’ll want a little something for the few items you depend. If you don’t already have a small bag, whilst searching for one, take all your travel necessities along to a shop. See how everything does or doesn’t fit. Do this to gauge the smallest size for your requirements, don’t choose anything larger than you need. Go compact. The less internal space each item occupies, the smaller the bag you can take. You’ll want all the extra room you can get, it really does make the difference when on cramped, tiring journeys. Weigh everything. Measure the exact weight of the entirety of your bag. List each item with the heaviest at the top and reevaluate whether you have any lighter alternatives. Try to replace the heaviest pieces with something lighter and more compact. Even when individual items feel light enough, remember, they all add up. Dry everything. If you’re still struggling to decide which clothes to select, before setting off, wash those you’re considering. Monitor how long each fabric takes to dry. Chose the thinnest, fastest options. Picking the right material will add so much value to your trip, allowing you the flexibility to easily dry them anywhere you please. This is just one aspect we don’t ever consider when in a fixed base but soon becomes important when living life on the move. Know why you’re going ultralight. Know the possibilities without luggage. When travelling with only a tiny bag, when reflecting on our journey, there’s a constant fragility in each movement. One moment there, no longer the next. For every passing tiny town, we miss an opportunity to connect. The more we have, the less we move. Exiting with the crowds, perhaps won’t take us anywhere, lost amongst the pack. The more we have, the less we go. The station where no one disembarks, has plenty to appreciate, though not directly on show. The possibilities without luggage, presented to us at each and every stop. The less we have is a lesson learned, lest we overlook. Give your trip its true potential, each time you leave for the next place, know your possibilities without luggage.
